According to statistics on the number of deaths from terrorism vs. the number of deaths from law enforcement, you are much more likely to be killed by the police than by a terrorist. Yet we are spending billions of dollars fight the "war on terror" and nothing on the "war on government".

In other news, Emily and I have been working on getting our College Park house refinanced. We will either rent it out or be living in it by next month. Nothing exciting is going on, so I'll write more when I have something to say.

I'm afraid that you might be throwing the baby out with the bath water by publishing this observation. While I certainly agree that big government is a threat to the lives of peaceful citizens - and even an indirect cause of terrorism - the reoccuring theme on your blog of denouncing killing, regardless of the reasons for it, lacks precision.

The tone of this post reeks of anarchism and fails to recognize that when the US Government kills to protect individual rights it is fundamentally different than when Islamic terrorists kill to rid the world of "infidels." Right and wrong, especially in life and death situations, is the wrong place for playing percentages.

This from the person who thinks 9/11 and the Oklahoma City bombing were justified?

My point is that there are many other threats faced by the people of this country. Threats that kill more people each year and should be taken more seriously than the remote possibility of getting killed in a terrorist attack.

First of all, I don't think - nor have I ever thought - that 9/11 was justified.

Simply because the influence of the West upon the Middle-East is not made solely of the best elements it has to offer does not magically elevate, or even equate, what Middle-Eastern culture has to offer - or more precisely, take away from - the West. Without this in mind, any attack against the West is unjustified. 9/11 was just that. Unlike Timothy McVeigh, Al Quaeda was not attempting to demolish the tyrannical elements of Western culture and government. Rather, it was attempting to wipe out the positive, free elements to make room for an even more dangerous form of tyranny: Islamic fascism.

I agree with you that a large American government is much more of a threat to the individual American citizen than Islamic terrorism. The purpose of my first comment was to have you state that more clearly. You've done that. Thanks.
